Knee Pain FAQ

Knee pain is the first sign that an issue is occurring in the joint. It's a way your body signals that something is out of alignment. At Circle Chiropractic Center in Fairfax VA, our chiropractor, Dr. Christopher Frey, has years of experience providing patients with natural and effective knee pain treatment. If you have never visited a chiropractic office before, you probably have several questions. Following are the answers to some of the most common questions we receive regarding knee pain treatment.

.

What Causes Knee Pain?

Knee pain is a direct result of inflammation in the joint. The region is made up of ligaments, tendons, and cartilage that allows us to walk, run and jump. Any imbalance or restriction of the joint's function will result in knee pain. Through chiropractic care, we can reduce your inflammation and restore your knee’s range of motion.

Can Knee Pain Go Away on its Own?

Yes, it is normal to have occasional aches and pains in your knee joint. Minor knee pain often resolves on its own following a few days of rest. However, if your knee pain lasts for more than two weeks it's a good idea to schedule an appointment to determine the extent of the injury. You do not want to run the risk of further damaging the joint.

What are The Risk Factors for Knee Pain?

Knee pain is a common sports injury among all levels of athletes. However, it is greater in those who participate in impact (football, basketball, soccer, and running) sports. Often, the pain is brought on due to repeated body movements such as jumping, pivoting, and bending during a course of a game. This amount of stress makes your knees more susceptible to pain.

How Will Circle Chiropractic Center Treat Knee Pain?

At Circle Chiropractic Center, our chiropractor, Dr. Christopher Frey, will begin by thoroughly examining your knee. He will use X-rays and other chiropractic diagnostic techniques to determine if your knee pain can be treated non-surgically. If so, then a personalized chiropractic treatment plan will be created. Usually, it will consist of spinal adjustments, massage therapy, heat/ice therapy, and electric muscle stimulation. Soon thereafter, you may participate in a corrective exercise program that helps to rehabilitate the knee, strengthening the joint and minimizing the chances of knee pain returning in the future.
